Jamie Vardy and Leonardo Ulloa were the heroes as Leicester City roared back from two goals down to claim a famous win over Manchester United in a eight-goal thriller at King Power Stadium.

Two goals in three minutes from Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria put United in a commanding position early on but Ulloa’s header ensured Leicester were still alive at the interval.

Ander Herrera appeared to have settled matters when his flick wrong-footed Kasper Schmeichel to put United 3-1 up, but David Nugent struck from the penalty spot on 62 minutes before summer signing Esteban Cambiasso brought the hosts level moments later with a low drive.

United poured forward in search of a winner but it was Leicester who showed the greater ruthlessness, with Vardy applying a clinical finish to a counter-attack and Ulloa converting a penalty which saw youngster Tyler Blackett sent off.

Radamel Falcao made his expected United debut, replacing the in-form Juan Mata, with captain Wayne Rooney eased back into a slightly deeper role.

Vardy was one of four changes for Leicester alongside former United trainee Danny Drinkwater, Cambiasso and son of Old Trafford legend Peter Schmeichel, goalkeeper Kasper.

Schmeichel was called into early work after Van Persie was fed by Di Maria, but he could do nothing about the Dutchman’s deflected header from a superb Falcao cross which put the visitors ahead on 13 minutes.

The lead was doubled in sublime fashion three minutes later when Di Maria linked up with Rooney before the Argentina star lifted a delightful effort over the helpless keeper.

However, United were almost immediately caught cold at the other end when Vardy got to the byline and crossed for Ulloa to head home powerfully to David de Gea’s left.

The visitors suffered another setback when Jonny Evans limped off and was replaced by Chris Smalling with less than half an hour gone, but both defences just about managed to hold firm for the rest of a fast and furious first period.

Falcao went close to restoring United’s two-goal cusion at the start of the second half when controlling a Rooney pass and firing a half-volley against the crossbar, but it proved a temporary respite for Leicester.

It was Herrera who did claim the third when flicking a Di Maria strike from the edge of the area past a stranded Schmeichel on 57 minutes.

However, Leicester again showed great heart to rally through a Nugent spot kick after Rafael da Silva shoved Vardy in the box and Cambiasso connected sweetly with a shot from just inside the area to level the scores just after the hour.

As United poured forward in search of a winner, they were caught woefully short in defence.

Mata, on as a substitute, was robbed by Ritchie De Laet, whose throughball released Vardy – the former Fleetwood Town man keeping his nerve to slot past De Gea one-on-one.

A mesmerising comeback was complete just four minutes later, more defensive dithering allowed Vardy in on goal again and Blackett could only chop him down in the penalty area, earning the youngster a straight red card and providing Ulloa the chance to cap a stunning outing for Leicester and a first home win in the top flight since May 2004.

Leicester 5 -3 Man United

An avoidable national disgrace, again, in the hands of South Africa has been visited on Nigeria. President Jacob Zuma claimed 67 South African nationals died in the building that collapsed at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos. Interestingly enough, the figures in Nigeria, given by emergency officials on site was lower.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye, on Wednesday insisted Zuma got his figures wrong. But the South Africans countered with facts, which the Nigerian official does not seem to have.

Farinloye contradicted himself, saying, "The church management up until now has not estimated or given us any list of people trapped, so we are just working on blind guesswork until we get to the last rubble.”

The South Africans have a list of their nationals visiting the church at the time of the incident. They number 300, and were brought to Nigeria by five tour groups, who often arrange such visits to the church.

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, may need to wield the big stick against that church. Synagogue should have a list of the guests in that Guest House. Why have they not released same to emergency/rescue officials? Must Nigeria continue to be disgraced like this?

Nigeria college attacked by gunmen

Gunshots and an explosion have been heard at a teacher training college in the northern Nigerian city of Kano.

Students were seen fleeing from the city's Federal College of Education.

There was no immediate indication of whether there were any casualties in the attack.

Nor was it clear who was responsible, although suspicion will fall on militant Islamist group Boko Haram, which has been waging an insurgency in Nigeria since 2009.

In July the city suffered a spate of five attacks in four days, one of which also targeted a college and killed six people.

In May 2013, Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan imposed a state of emergency in the northern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, vowing to crush the insurgency.

However the militants have stepped up attacks, killing more than 2,000 civilians this year, according to New York-based Human Rights Watch.

REAL LEADERSHIP, INSPIRING AND COURAGEOUS SPEECH: Read the address of Gov Bukar Shettima to the abandoned and terrorized people of Borno State yesterday.....

TEXT OF A STATE-WIDE BROADCAST DELIVERED BY HIS EXCELLENCY, THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF BORNO STATE, HON. KASHIM SHETTIMA; FRIDAY, SPETEMBER 5, 2014

Fellow, and dear citizens of Borno State

In recent days and weeks, we have come under renewed and augmented attacks, waged against all of us, by an armed minority that seeks to impose on us, a doctrine that is completely at variance with the religion of Islam which they claim to promote; a doctrine that negates the dignity and existence of humanity on earth, despite Allah’s decree in the glorious Quran, that He has dignified the human creature, prohibited unjust killings and made the religion of Islam that which does not sanction compulsion in a multi-faith society like ours.

Several innocent communities in Gwoza, Damboa, Askira/Uba, Marte, Chibok, Konduga, Dikwa and the most recent, Bama, have had young and old, amongst them children, weak old men and women, killed in cold blood, their homes destroyed and thousands forced to flee, with some trekking over hurtful distances to become refugees within and outside Borno State. Our Capital City of Maiduguri is today facing a heavy influx of refugees from the local government areas in Borno. Borno citizens have been forced to take refuge in parts of Gombe and Adamawa States mainly on account of man’s inhumanity to fellow man in the gratuitous name of religion. These acts are absolutely condemnable in the strongest of terms.

Let me use this opportunity to once again, extend my deepest sympathy to the families of all those who lost their lives in these serial massacres that are designed to send Borno and its people into oblivion, but which will not succeed insha Allah.

I also express my very deep sympathy to all victims who either lost property or are taking refuge. Our heart as Government is fully with each and every one of you and we will do everything humanly possible to support you, reclaim your communities, rebuild them and give all of you a new lease of life insha Allah.

We will be supporting you as a matter obligation to you as good citizens. You have a right to be supported in distress. You have even more fundamental right to be protected from fear and attack in the first place.

The number one duty of Government is to safeguard the lives and property of the citizenry. However laudable policies and programmes of Government could be, no matter the beauty of infrastructures put in place, they would all amount to less than nothing if human lives are not secured. As Government, we are more than mindful of this constitutional, moral and spiritual obligation.

As Governor of Borno State, I am un-forgetfully aware that for every life that is lost in Borno State, I will account before Allah on the Day of Judgment if that life is lost on the basis of deliberate failures on my part, to do what I have the powers, resources and influence to do.

This administration has never and insha Allah will never abdicate from its obligations to citizens. We have done, and still doing everything within the limits of our powers and resources, to complement the duty of the Federal Government to safeguard lives and property.

Immaterial as it may sound, we have through combined efforts with the Military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Security; our youth volunteers called the civilian JTF and other para-military organizations averted so many planned attacks. However, this assertion will hardly make sense to most citizens, in a situation where many attacks have been successfully carried out with elevated mass killings and destructions in the past and in very recent days and weeks.

Citizens have very legitimate reasons to be aggrieved by the current situation in Borno State. We are pained as your Government. We are in this together. As Governor, I feel a sense of not just responsibility but an even personal loss whenever any attack is recorded no matter what part of the State is affected and who is or are involved. We are in this together.

Borno state has been facing this Boko Haram challenge since July 2009 in Maiduguri when the Boko Haram waged its major war on Borno’s soil. Haven been defeated by our determined armed forces, insurgents resorted to Guerrilla warfare that has been raging on for the last four years. At least one third of our local government areas have been affected by their attacks with different degrees of intensity and periodic occupation.

In the history of Borno since 19th century, this is however not the first threat to our existence as a people. We had faced and survived threats in years past and we shall survive this insha Allah.

We are confident of victory through a reinforcement of our armed forces and the collective will of all of us, citizens, who are committed to defeating the Boko Haram scourge. Collectively as a people, we have exhibited great determination.

Our youth volunteers have made us proud. We are all in this, fellow citizens. We all have roles to play. One of these roles is the devoted offer of prayers and ceaseless appeal to the Almighty to make us victorious.

In the past, our armed forces have proven their mettle even in global warfare where they were in foreign terrain in the Second World War, in the Congo, in Liberia, in Sierra Leon, in the Sudan and elsewhere. Our armed forces have also, during the Civil War, successfully saved our country from dismemberment. Our armed forces that have outstandingly proven their capability in such difficult times can by the grace Allah defeat the Boko Haram insurgency with overwhelming federal reinforcement in all areas of their needs. We strongly appeal to the federal government to redouble its present efforts so that the nation will be a historic witness to speedy containment of the Boko Haram insurgency. The Borno State Government will continue to do whatever it can to compliment the constitutional roles of the Federal Government in this battle of ours.

Let me reassure the good people of Borno State that measures have been taken by the Federal Government based on information available to us as Government. With these steps and our combined efforts as State Government and resilient people, we shall overcome this tribulation.

We must be very forth coming with useful information on what we hear or see because our safety start with what we tell not what we keep or bury. Hiding information that threatens us never helps us or others. We must be very vigilant in all our communities. We must take copious note of anyone or anything strange around us but without raising false alarm or spreading any form of rumour that will cause panic. Let us try to reach out to those in position of authority to verify information concerning public safety or related matters.

The Borno State Radio and Television will be coming up with a Television and Radio programme designed with public telephone lines that can be reached by citizens for enquiries on public issues in relation to security, help in orientation and mobilisation of victims, as well as helping them in locating missing loved ones and friends where there are such matters and keeping citizens regularly updated on matters affecting security, victims support and their comfort. I appeal to other media houses to kindly assist in this effort.

The Ministries concerned with Home Affairs and Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs are also to make available public lines that can be reached by any victim from any affected local government area.

Similarly, the Ministry of Health will also put in place an immediate Mobile Task Force on Insurgency Victims Health that should be moving round Maiduguri and environs to source for and attend to the health needs of victims on both emergency and lesser cases; ensure the existence of clinics in all victims camps and coordinate the efficiency of the clinics to guarantee the availability of health personnel at all times, drugs, ambulances and other required materials. The Ministry has my express permission to commit Government in the event of any critical medical need involving ascertained victim of this unfortunate insurgency from any affected community.

Government is not unaware of the multi-facet effects of insurgent attacks on other spheres of human lives in affected communities in terms of food security, means of livelihood and access to education among others.

Already, the State Government has taken measures to acquire food stuffs for free distribution to affected citizens. Government has purchased thousands of bags of food stuffs and more is being acquired. On the issue of means of livelihood, the Secretary to the State Government is to chair a High level and Enlarged Victims Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Support Team that will soon meet and work with stakeholders in affected communities to assist victims on a permanent measure.

On access to education, Government has observed a high scale requirement of admissions into primary and secondary school especially from guardians who seek slots at orphanage schools in Maiduguri and Biu in particular, for orphans whose parents were killed as a result of the insurgency.

Consequently, a team of respected academics, school administrators and educationists will be inaugurated by me next week, with the mandate of coming up with State Primary and Secondary Schools for Special Citizens to be cited in Maiduguri and Biu for the time being. The schools are to be designed to accommodate high capacity of pupils with modern boarding facilities. Every child admitted into that school is to be on full Government scholarship from basic to University Education.

Members of the public willing to make donations will be entertained to a ‘Adoption of child Education Programme’ though which kind citizens can adopt the education of a child, two or more, through well organised system that can be monitored by every sponsor who must be entitled to all academic and attitudinal record of an adoptee. While the team is to fine tune this idea, the Ministry of Education is directed to identify and enrol affected children into temporary public schools in Maiduguri and Biu or in the alternative, create temporary special school sites for affected children to start having immediate access to education soon as schools open.

Fellow citizens, we shall at all times be responsive to our duties as Government. We are very much committed to doing just everything that we can do. Borno State has been in the eye of the storm; we have suffered deaths, destruction and hardships on scales never witnessed in the annals of our long and glorious history.

We have experienced unprecedented sorrow, tears and blood. We must all work for peace. To work for peace is to covet and protect it. In seeking peace, those of us who mean well for this State, must not only remain united, we must strive to consolidate this unity. Defeating the insurgency is a collective task that must be done, we must not be distracted. We must remain united, focused and vigilant. I will particularly like to direct this appeal to our heroes, the galant and courageous youth volunteers, the Civilian JTF. They must remain united and focused more than ever before.

The Civilian JTF must at all times have at the back of their minds that Allah (SWT) in his infinite wisdom and mercy is using them to support security agencies to rescue our state from the advocates of hate and destruction. The people of Borno are very grateful to them for their undying love and sacrifices. As Government which is holding the sacred mandate of the people, we will remain supportive of the civilian JTF as we have been. Our support for the military, police and other security agencies is that of a shared battle against the forces of darkness.

We shall accelerate our focus on jobs creation to discourage idleness and criminality. We shall speed up ongoing infrastructures to deliver on our promises to make Borno a better place, a remodeled State, a great home we will all be proud of. Borno is our home.

This is why I returned home amidst rumored fears held by some residents on possible attacks on Maiduguri. I cut short my official trip and returned home so we can be together as we have always been in trying to overcome the threat before us. I am confident that together we can overcome this challenge. Our condition cannot be permanent, no condition, ever was. We can overcome this problem with the right attitude from the top to the bottom. Indeed we can.

May Allah give us the fortitude to bear the loss of those killed in this crisis, May He grant us peace and guide those of us in leadership, to work selflessly for Borno to become a better place for all of us, and for our children.

I thank you very profoundly for your tremendous support and for listening to me today as you always did in the past.

Long live Borno State!
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Jonathan’s town boils as youths protest varsity admission quota

SEPTEMBER 4, 2014 BY SIMON UTEBOR, YENAGOALeave a Comment

President Goodluck Jonathan’s hometown, Otuoke, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was on Thursday thrown into chaos.

Aggrieved youths from the President’s community protested the alleged refusal of the Federal University, Otuoke, to employ and give out admission slots to indigenes of the community.

The protesting youths barricaded the entrance to the university.

The protest, which started at about 8am lasted many hours, leading to the closure of the entrance into temporary sites of the institution and the disruption of examinations for pioneer students and the 200-level students of the institution.

It was learnt that the protest was called off by the irate youths following the intervention of riot policemen and the military from the Joint Military Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield.

Also, head of the Oloibiri of the Ijaw Youths Council, led by Mr. Osaanya Osaanya, the Ogbia clan head of the Ijaw National Congress, Chief Wilson Obi and the Chairman of the Oloibiri Clan Youth Assembly, Ifiola Moses implored the youths to cease hostilities.

The protesting Otuoke youths said recruitment had not been done in the last two years.

The youths demanded that a total 319 names agreed by the community should be employed. We also demand admission slots from the university.

They also demanded a Memoradum of Understanding with the community on issues of employment and admission.

But the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, reacting to the incident, said the university had never failed in engaging the host community of Otuoke on issues of employment and admission as stipulated in the provided legislation.

He said, “Community pressure will come up and we have handled them well. But we don’t want to be compelled and the academic activities of the students distrupted.

Scores Killed as Boko Haram Insurgents Overrun Nigerian Town

Sources
By Lanre Ola
MAIDUGURI Nigeria (Reuters)

Islamist Boko Haram insurgents overran most of a northeastern Nigerian town on Tuesday after hours of fighting that killed scores and displaced thousands of residents, security sources said.

The Islamists launched an attack on the town of Bama, 70 km (45 miles) from the Borno state capital of Maiduguri, on Monday. They were initially repelled but came back in greater numbers overnight, the sources and witnesses said.

Nigerian defense spokesman did not respond to a request for comment. The sources said there were heavy casualties on both sides and one said at least 5,000 people fled the town.

In a bungled air strike, several Nigerian troops were killed at the Bama armory by a war plane targeting the insurgents, a soldier on the ground told Reuters.

Two months after Islamist militants in Iraq and Syria declared the area they seized an Islamic caliphate, Boko Haram has also for the first time explicitly laid claim to territory it says it controls in parts of northeast Nigeria.

They captured the remote hilly farming town of Gwoza, along the Cameroon border, during fighting last month. The group's leader Abubakar Shekau in a video declared it a "Muslim territory" that would be ruled by strict Islamic law.

Shekau's forces have killed thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands since launching an uprising in 2009 to revive a medieval Islamic caliphate in religiously mixed Nigeria. They are the biggest security threat to Africa's top oil producer.

"When we started hearing gunshots, everybody was confused. There was firing from different directions. We just ran to the outskirts of town," Bukar Auwalu, a trader who fled with his wife, three children and brother, told Reuters by phone.

"There were military helicopters and a fighter jet. We slept in the bush on the outskirts of town. We can't go back."

Adrian Edwards, spokesman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said 9,000 people fleeing violence in Nigeria's northeast had arrived in Cameroon's Far North region in the past 10 days.

"Even upon arrival in Cameroon, they are not necessarily out of harm’s way. On Sunday, insurgents attacked Kerawa town inside Cameroon, forcing refugees and some local residents to flee further inland," he said in a briefing note from Geneva.

Another 2,000 had crossed into Niger, which is already hosting some 50,000 refugees from fighting since May 2013. Some 645,000 people are internally displaced in Nigeria, she said.

Cameroon state radio said on Tuesday it had killed 40 Boko Haram insurgents during an attempted incursion by the militants the previous day.

BLOODY INSURGENCY

Because of Bama's proximity to Maiduguri, a metropolis and home to an army base, security officials are worried there is now little to keep Boko Haram from gaining access to a city that was also the birthplace of their movement.

The military has extended Maiduguri's nightly curfew to 7 p.m. (2.00 p.m. EDT) until 6 a.m. - it previously started at 10 p.m. - to fight infiltration by insurgents, Nigerian defense headquarters said.

The insurgents have also been in control of a small town called Gamboru Ngala, on the shores of Lake Chad to the north, that they seized in August which potentially opens up two fronts for an attack on Maiduguri.

"Boko Haram are beginning to operate like a conventional army, a major change from... before July, when it focused on carrying out short-lived hit-and-run assaults," the Nigeria Security Network's Andrew Noakes said in a report on Tuesday.

"If Maiduguri falls, it will be a symbolic and strategic victory unparalleled so far in the conflict."

Boko Haram attracted the international spotlight on April 14, when it kidnapped more than 200 girls from a school in the northeast village of Chibok in April. They remain in captivity.

The apparent powerlessness of the military to protect civilians or prevent the militants' raids has triggered much criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan's administration.

A soldier involved in the Bama fighting, who declined to be named, said the insurgents had targeted the Bama armory with heavy weapons including tanks. As troops tried to repel the attack, they called in air reinforcements.

But by the time the war planes arrived, they had mostly lost the battle for this location. The jet then bombed the area but accidentally killed everyone there, both Nigerian troops and insurgents, the soldier said.

"The situation is bad. We lost so many of our men," he said.

Farmer Ibrahim Malu said hundreds had fled the town. He had gone out to his farm early in the morning when gunfire and loud explosions erupted. He ran back home, but by the time he got there his wife and children had already fled.

"I still don't even know where they could be," he told Reuters by telephone. "Two soldiers fled with me. One of them didn't even have any shoes."

Nigeria's Boko Haram 'Seize Banki Town Near Cameroon'

Nigeria's militant Islamist group Boko Haram has captured the town of Banki, which borders Cameroon, after government troops fled, residents say.

The military has not yet commented on the latest town to reportedly fall to the insurgents in recent weeks.

Fears have been raised that their main target is Maiduguri, the capital of north-eastern Borno state.

Boko Haram's "lightning territorial gains" could lead to Nigeria breaking up like Iraq, a think-thank has warned.

Last month, Boko Haram leader declared an Islamic caliphate in areas under the group's control, following a similar declaration by the Islamic State (IS) group, previously known by the acronym Isis, after it captured parts of Iraq and Syria.

"Unless swift action is taken, Nigeria could be facing a rapid takeover of a large area of its territory reminiscent of Isis's lightning advances in Iraq," the Nigeria Security Network (NSN) said in a special report released on Tuesday entitled North-East Nigeria On The Brink.

"If Maiduguri falls, it will be a symbolic and strategic victory unparalleled so far in the conflict," it said.

"A successful attack could be followed by a take over of the whole of Borno state and possibly parts of Adamawa, Yobe, and neighbouring Cameroon."

The UN refugee agency has said the fighting has forced more than 10,000 people to flee to neighbouring Cameroon and Niger in the past week, the Associated Press news agency reports.

Meanwhile, regional foreign ministers have held talks in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, to discuss the growing security threat.

Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Benin and Niger agreed to step up security co-operation, including intelligence-gathering, to defeat the militants, a statement issued after the meeting said.

'Hiding in bush'

Residents from Banki say that government troops abandoned their posts as the militants advanced on the small border town on Tuesday.

Most of the people remaining in the town were women and children, as many of the men had fled, one man who was hiding in the bush nearby told the BBC Hausa service.

The militants have not harmed anyone in the town, residents said.

The capture of Banki gives Boko Haram leverage as it tries to secure territory beyond north-eastern Nigeria, says BBC Nigeria analyst Jimeh Saleh.

Earlier this week, Boko Haram seized Bama, the biggest town in Borno after Maiduguri, which is about 70km (45 miles) away.

Meanwhile, Cameroon's army has said that militants crossed into Cameroonian territory on Monday night.

The militants were pushed back after a three-hour battle, it said in a statement.

About 40 militants were killed and an army corporal was seriously wounded in the fighting, it added.

Boko Haram's five-year insurgency has intensified in recent months despite the deployment of thousands of extra troops to the worst-affected areas.

The military has denied that Nigeria's territorial integrity is threatened.

But Nigerian soldiers say they do not have enough resources to curb the insurgency.

In April, the militants captured more than 200 girls from a boarding school in the town of Chibok, also in Borno state.

Countries such as China, France, the UK and US have sent military assistance to help find the girls but they have not yet been rescued.

... Fake Ebola Test Kits Flood Lagos

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday warned people in Lagos and other citizens in the country not to fall victims of suspected fraudsters who were selling a kit that could be used to test for Ebola Virus.

The government, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Mr. Hakeem Bello, explained that the reality on ground was that there was nothing like that.

It added that the product, which was called Rapid Response Canada, was nothing but a hoax to rip-off unsuspecting Nigerian people of their earned money.

Bello stated that the technique for the manufacture of such kit does not exist. He urged the members of the public not to patronize sellers of such dubious product.

The statement read, “The Lagos State Government on Tuesday alerted members of the public to the activities of some unscrupulous people who are purportedly marketing Ebola Test Kit. In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Mr. Hakeem Bello, the fake items, which are branded as Rapid Response Canada with test results purportedly available in 10 minutes is a hoax.”

“According to the statement, there are no Ebola test kits manufactured anywhere in the world and that the technique for its manufacture does not exist yet. The statement adds that members of the public should not patronize the dubious marketers of the product.”

OGUN APC Crisis Taken For the Worst:
Why Osoba must not accept Amosun’s apology – Obadara

ABEOKUTA — A  Senator  representing  Ogun Central Senatorial district in Ogun State,  Gbenga  Obadara, yesterday, explained why former governor of the state, Chief Segun  Osoba, must not forgive governor Ibikunle Amosun.
Obadara,  who is a member of the group loyal to Osoba, said  though,  the governor had asked the people in the state to help him apologise to Aremu Osoba, but claimed the governor by actions, had not shown sincere repentance.

The senator, who is also, Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatisation, spoke while featuring on a live programme on a private radio station in Abeokuta.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state has been polarised into two factions, with former governor Osoba leading one faction and Governor Amosun leading the other.

The governor had asked the people of the state to help him beg Aremo Osoba to allow reconciliation.

While  listing reasons Amosun’s apology must not be accepted, Obadara  accused the governor of not being a team player, claiming “the party is lopsided, our people paid for the congresses, but, they were sidelined.

“When we complained to the national leadership of the party, they did nothing. He who goes to equity must come with clean hands. How can you explain a situation in a state where five to six local governments do not have commissioners?

“The governor does not have good advisers. Our leader, Aremo Olusegun Osoba was humiliated, he was abused and his house was defaced. The governor did not say anything about it. He neither  phoned  the leader  nor went to his house since he became governor. The appointment he made since he assumed office is lopsided; so many local governments do not have representatives in his government.
“The governor had said all the National Assembly members in the state are inconsequential, and we do not have electoral values. He is not a team player and his commissioners cannot talk to us.

“Some of his loyalists said they will kill us. When we told him what his people told us,  he said he did not send anybody. Except justice is done,  if we did  not get  the required justice,  definitely,  we will take our fate in  our hands.”

A friend posted this on my page and felt it's good I share the information with u my good friends:

Good morning my people, please do join me to commend Multi Billionaire Arthur Eze for his bravery in Umuahia the other day. In a well attended function hosted by gov. T. A. Orji, Chief Arthur Eze openly told the governor that Abia state stinks and that he has taken Abians to 10 years backward because of his visionless administration. There was a pin dropping silence when the Anambra born business mogul dropped his bombshell, took T.A Orji to the cleaners right to his face without any apologies. This is the kind of message we need to pass across to our so called leaders. All these governors squandering the resources of their states, enriching themselves at the detriment of their people will NEVER go unpunished. Nemesis will definitely catch up with them even after leaving office. I wish u all a blissful day.

Dr. Fabian.

Just In: Review of School Resumption Date

The Federal government has decided that the earlier extension of resumption date for primary and secondary schools to the 13th October be reviewed to the middle of September. Addressing state House correspondents after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting, the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu said the decision to review the extension of resumption date was based on the recommendation of a body of experts set up by government to look at the extension of resumption dates for primary and secondary schools. According to the Minister, the Minister of Education was directed by council to convene an emergency meeting with all states commissioners of Education in order to agree on when schools can resume nationwide. Professor Chukwu who briefed council on the status of the Ebola Virus in the country said that only two patients of the Ebola Virus Disease are under treatment in Nigeria with one each in Lagos and Portharcourt. He explained that since the out break of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country, a total of 18 persons have been infected, out of which 14 were in Lagos and 4 in Portharcourt. He explained that while 8 patients have been successfully treated and discharged, seven persons incuding the Liberian American have so far died of the disease.

WHO: New Ebola Fears Mount in Nigeria

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — An ill doctor in southern Nigeria exposed dozens of people to the Ebola virus by continuing to treat patients before his death, the World Health Organization warned Wednesday as it announced the toll across West Africa had surged above 1,900 fatalities.

Officials in Nigeria had believed that Ebola was largely contained within Africa's most populous country after a sick traveler from Liberia brought the disease to Lagos. However, a man who had had contact with the ill visitor later evaded his surveillance and traveled to the oil hub of Port Harcourt where he triggered a second cluster of cases.

A Port Harcourt doctor and another patient there are now dead, and the doctor's widow and sister are sick with Ebola. About 60 other people are under surveillance after having "high-risk" or "very high-risk" contact with the infected doctor, WHO said. More than 140 others are also being monitored.

"Given these multiple high-risk exposure opportunities, the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Port Harcourt has the potential to grow larger and spread faster than the one in Lagos," WHO warned. Nigeria's health minister has said there is no reason for people to panic in Port Harcourt.

The U.N. health agency, though, said it feared civil unrest and public fear of Ebola could further the crisis, saying "military escorts are needed for movements into the isolation and treatment center."

Nigeria's Ebola toll so far has been limited in comparison to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea where hundreds have died in each country. Nigerian authorities say five people have died in Lagos, and the doctor in Port Harcourt and the other fatality there bring the national toll to seven.

The man who infected the Port Harcourt doctor was later found after a four-day manhunt and is recovering. WHO said Wednesday that the physician continued to see patients after the onset of Ebola symptoms and even operated on two people. Ebola is transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids, and health authorities say patients are only contagious once they show symptoms.

"Prior to hospitalization, the physician had numerous contacts with the community, as relatives and friends visited his home to celebrate the birth of a baby," WHO said in a statement. "Once hospitalized, he again had numerous contacts with the community, as members of his church visited to perform a healing ritual said to involve the laying on of hands. During his six-day day period of hospitalization, he was attended by the majority of the hospital's health care staff."

The announcement from WHO did not specify whether the health care staff wore gloves or other protective gear when treating him. Getting protective gear to health workers in the affected areas and ensuring that they receive hazard pay are top priorities for combatting the crisis, said Dr. David Nabarro, who is coordinating the U.N. response to the outbreak.

Doctors and nurses have been especially vulnerable to Ebola because they work closely with Ebola patients, whose bodily fluids spread the virus. Dr. Rick Sacra, 51, from the Boston area, is currently infected in Liberia, his missionary organization said Wednesday.

Two other Americans already have been evacuated back to the United States and have recovered from Ebola. Both received an experimental drug known as ZMapp. The company has said that all of its doses are now exhausted, and it will be months before more can be made.

It is also still not clear if the drug is effective, since human trials have not yet been carried out. Two of the people who received ZMapp died, while five others survived.
