"The Sacking of 16000 striking resident doctors at a time the country is battling to contain the Ebola outbreak is inauspicious, ill-advised and untimely.
Doctors, like other health workers, have legitimate rights to demand for effective health care reforms that guarantee them better conditions of service and prevent our struggling health system from failing.
It is in the overriding national interest for both parties to reconsider their positions and suspend, even if temporarily, the strike action in order to attend to the Ebola emergency.
The government should desist from taking any unilateral action that will only toughen up positions and preclude any chance of compromise. Instead, it should enter into honest and confidence-building negotiations with groups concerned and not try to make an enemy out of anyone who disagrees with its policies and actions."
Muhammadu Buhari.
