Gen. Andrew Azazi and the Minister of Defence, Bello Haliru Fired
Presidnet Goodluck Jonathan on Friday got angry and took very drastic decision with regards to the security leadership in the country. He has fired the National Security Adviser, his brother from Bayelsa State, Gen. Andrew Azazi and the Minister of Defence, Bello Haliru.
Our correspondents gathered from top security sources in Abuja that Mr. President has immediately replaced Gen. Azazi with retired Col. Sambo Dasuki. He is also expected to forward a new name to the National Assembly to replace Bello Haliru who was sacked as Defence Minister.
Recall that the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, has held the Jonathan-led administration to the ground in the last one week, almost making a mockery of the country's security tactics.

HISTORY OF THE ILL-FATED AIRCRAFT:::LAGOS — There are indications that the Dana Air MC Donnell Douglas MD 83 which crashed around Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos ,yesterday has a history of worrying defaults even before original owners, US-based Alaska Airlines sold it to Dana Airlines on February 17, 2009.
According to the information from Aviation Safety Network, an exclusive service of the Air safety Foundation, the ill-fated aircraft was acquired by Alaska Airline in November 13, 1990 with registration number N944AS.
However, on November 4, 2002 the aircraft developed fault and had emergency diversion due to smoke and electrical smell in the cabin area, which engineers said was because light ballast had over heated.
Four years after, the aircraft’s health was also called to question when on August 20, 2006, it was again evacuated after landing at the Long Beach, CA due to a chaffed wire bundle that discharged and produced smoke in the cabin area again.
Apparently scared that the worst could happen, Alaska Airlines was said to have on August 21 parked the aircraft at Victorville until September 11 2008 when it carried out maintenance on it.
Eventually on February 2009 Alaska Airlines shifted the burden to Nigeria when it sold the ill-fated plane as 5N-RAM. The MD-83 was manufactured in 1983, announced go-ahead on January 31, 1983 and had first flight on December 17, 1984
It was a longer range development of the basic MD-81/82 with higher weights, more powerful engines, increased fuel capacity and longer range. It was equipped with slightly more powerful 21,000 1bf (93 kN) Pratt and Whitney JT8D-219s as standard.
The aircraft also had higher operating weights with MTOW increased to 160,000 1b and MLW to 139,500 1b. Typical range for the MD-83 with 155 passengers in around 2,504 nautical miles (4,637km).::::::::::::::

Apparently scared that the worst could happen, Alaska Airlines was said to have on August 21 parked the aircraft at Victorville until September 11 2008 when it carried out maintenance on it.
Eventually on February 2009 Alaska Airlines shifted the burden to Nigeria when it sold the ill-fated plane as 5N-RAM. The MD-83 was manufactured in 1983, announced go-ahead on January 31, 1983 and had first flight on December 17, 1984
It was a longer range development of the basic MD-81/82 with higher weights, more powerful engines, increased fuel capacity and longer range. It was equipped with slightly more powerful 21,000 1bf (93 kN) Pratt and Whitney JT8D-219s as standard.
The aircraft also had higher operating weights with MTOW increased to 160,000 1b and MLW to 139,500 1b. Typical range for the MD-83 with 155 passengers in around 2,504 nautical miles (4,637km).::::::::::::::

Why Has The House Of Representative’s Committee Report Been Buried?
In January 2012, there was an awakening of the average Nigerian to his rights as a citizen and the government’s responsibility toward the people. For the first time ever, the budget was being discussed in every household, office, bar, and at social gatherings. The people for once were taking interest in the acts and inactions of their selected or elected officials. This interest arose from the removal of subsidy on fuel and Nigerians where suddenly beginning to ask where their money went to, and what it had been spent on. Many people took to the streets and demanded for accountability, transparency, proper use of funds and implementation of the budget. A lot of us stood up and claimed the reason we were on the street was about ‘MORE THAN N65′. We screamed, shouted, blogged and held firm. Then came TUC/NLC’s shameful compromise and the whole protest stuttered as a whole. People where disappointed, disillusioned, and tired. After that outing, we all pretty much went back to sleep. We resumed our lives and most of us stopped saying anything. The few who were still talking were doing so with a little less force.
What happened to all us us who were demanding for the resignation of Diezani for the role she played in the corruption in the Petroleum industry? What did we do with the famous KPMG report? What happened to our anger? Our zeal for change? What happened to the 60 day ultimatum given to Ribadu and his ‘oil revenue special task force‘? What happened to the conflicting numbers of Madam Okonjo Iweala, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and Deazani Alison-Madueke? Why has the House of Representative’s committee report been buried? Have we uncovered the true figures of how much PMS we consume daily? Do we know the quantity of PMS we import daily, the quantity we export and at how much we sell it for? Have we uncovered how much we’have paid for subsidy in 2009, 2010, 2011 or to whom we’have paid those sums to? The answer is no.
HERE IS A REMINDER OF THINGS THAT HAVE REMAINED THE SAME:
The famous ‘CABAL‘ has not been exposed, prosecuted or stopped.
The waste in government has not reduced.
NO Petroleum Industry Bill has been passed.
Corruption has not been tackled.
The masses are still suffering.
People are still dying of hunger.
Hospitals are still in a dilapidated state.
Or roads remain death traps.
Schools teach nothing or close to nothing.
Bombs are still going off & boko haram is at large
WHAT HAS GONE WORSE? We’re paying more for fuel. We’re paying more for transportation. We’re paying more for food. We’re paying more for schools. We’re paying more in public and private hospitals. The rate of crime has gone up significantly. Political office holders are paid even more than they were before January 2012 BUT strangely, we’re talking less!
WHAT CAN WE DO? I’have always said we need to get people educated. We need to get everyone interested in government and governance. The rights of an individual and what the government owes you in return: basically, what the people government are paid so handsomely to do.
The truth is, as much as it sounds fabulous to have a few people fighting for the rights of all others, it sadly remains unsustainable. We need everyone fighting this common fight. We need the same level of participation i had with my group in January. Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions. We need people demanding answers to hard questions. We need the people in Edo, Lafia, Biu, Ore, Bende, Aba, & Duntsen-ma asking why the LG road is still bad, why the schools are in shambles, and why maternal care is crappy and where the money has gone to. We need people caring, and we need people participating. If occupyNigeria is the solution to our problem! well I have little to say to you, we need you to get up again.

Don’t judge life by one difficult season
Once there was a father who wanted to train his four sons. He wanted his sons to learn, not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall.
When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen. The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son said no it was covered with green buds and full of promise.
The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.
The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one season in the tree’s life.
He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.
If you give up when it’s winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfilment of your fall.
Don’t let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.

Supreme Court Dismissed Petition Challenging Governor Godswill Akpabio's Election
The Supreme court this afternoon dismissed the Sen. Akpanudeghe's suit challenging the election of GOV Godswill Akpabio. In a lead judgement delivered by Hon. Justice Mary Odili,the court described the suit as lacking in merit and abuse of court process and waste of judicial time.
Justice Odili said the submission of the appellant counsel was a good academic rendition and had no consequence whatsoever.
The full panel of seven Justices chaired by Hon. Justice Chukwuma Ede were unanimous in the decision.

Nigeria Launched Made In Nigeria Energy-Saving Light Bulbs
President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday launched made in Nigeria energy-saving light bulbs. Apparently to avoid insinuations that the bulbs were launched because of the coming increase in electricity rates, the President said "even if we have abundant power, we need it. The whole world is changing, they are phasing out the bulbs that emit so much heat to the ones that save energy. It has nothing to do with our commitment to stabilize power in this country. we will continue to work hard to stabilize power."

BUT We Do Not Approve of Any Coup Gamble That Is Likely To Eventually Lead to A Violent , Wasteful, Destructive Disintegration of Nigeria.
THEREFORE We Shall Work Together to Pursue Positive Change in our Obviously Imperfect Civil Democratic Set Up To Make Life Better for ALL Nigerians.
We BEG Mr President, All State Governors, Federal and State Legislators and Three Leading Traditional Rulers from Each State to Please Coordinate and take Urgently Needed Actions to Save Nigerian People from Imminent PREVENTABLE FURTHER CALAMITIES and CHAOS.
SOMETHING TANGIBLE MUST BE DONE FOR POSITIVE CHANGE IN NIGERIA NOW.
These should include but not limited to working earnestly to :
1. Pass and IMPLEMENT laws to legally empower and finance State Police NOW.
2. Pass and IMPLEMENT laws to empower voluntary organized security intelligence and civil defence outfits at Village, Town, State and Zonal = Regional levels NOW.
3. Pass and IMPLEMENT laws that ensure public accountability by public servants to Nigerian people at all levels NOW.
4. Pass and IMPLEMENT laws that compel public servants to pursue people security and development as first priority with resources currently available.
5. Pass and IMPLEMENT laws that further guarantee freedom to political, religious and other beliefs and association for ALL who live in Nigeria.
6. Pass and IMPLEMENT laws that compel obviously orderly free and fair future Nigerian elections at ALL levels.
7. Pass and IMPLEMENT laws for TRUE FEDERALISM in Nigeria NOW.
Recognise the Six Nigerian Zones in current existence as Regional Groups of States in the Nigerian Constitution. Drop all discussion of and waste of precious resources on new predictably unviable states creation now.
8. Make Nigerian Federal Government Executive to be CONSTITUTIONALLY ALWAYS NATIONALLY INCLUSIVE by compelling ONE nomination by the elected state assembly from each state in a smaller Federal Government Executive .9. Work out New Equitable Revenue Sharing Formula to increase percentage allocation to all states for increased responsibilities.
10. Stop taking ALL FOREIGN LOANS for now but concentrate instead first on stopping panic treasury looting and large scale assets thefts from Nigeria.

CORRUPTION PRAYER
Curruption Prayer.
Abuja– Spokesperson for President Jonathan Ebele Goodluck, Mr Reuben Abati, has responded to accusations that Jonathan and members of his cabal refused to say amen to at this weekend’s democracy day Church Service when the preacher offered a prayerful curse against corruption amongst public officials.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Abati revealed aspects of protocol that are not widely known outside Government circles, and which would explain why Mr President and ministers didn’t say Amen to the prayer by Most Reverend Peter Akinola, committing corrupt politicians to the court of God.
According to him, it is a long standing presidential protocol that during Church or Mosque services, the President only offers a fixed number of amens or amis, as the case may be.
The Reverend had offered many prayers and demanded many amens prior to the contentious one, Abati explained, the result of which was that the day’s quota of amens had been used up.
“Why?” asked the spokesperson, “would President not say amen to a prayer against corruption?”
He advised preachers, pastors, imams etc, to familiarise themselves with government protocol and to also limit the length of their prayers and sermons.
“It is the same people accusing the President of not saying amen to anti-corruption prayer that would be accusing him of favouritism if he had broken with protocol and said more amens than is allowed by constitution,” Abati said.

First year anniversary: Jonathan’s Facebook’s friends’ damning verdict
As President Goodluck Jonathan marks his first year in office on May 29, his comment on the first anniversary on his Facebook has attracted varying degree of reactions from some of his friends and followers on the social media platform.
His comment on the anniversary uploaded on Monday, May 14 stated thus:
“As we approach the first anniversary of this administration and because we derive our mandate from the people by the way of free and fair election, I have instructed members of the Executive Council of the Federation to render an account of stewardship to Nigerians.
“This rendering by the way of televised live ministerial briefings are ongoing and I encourage all Nigerians to watch these briefings and give me feedback on this page.
“Feedback is the synergy that is needed to make government work better for you and as I have demonstrated from inception of this page. I take your feedback into account in formation of government policy as well as the decision making process” the president wrote.
As at the time of this report, about 2,720 comments and 922 likes have been recorded on the anniversary message. While 64 per cent of the respondents expressed their displeasure on Jonathan’s administration’s performance so far, 36 per cent gave him a pass mark but urged him to speed up his transformation agenda.
Some of the comments on the anniversary message are as follows:
Robert Akpebi: Goodluck should forget about 2015, complete your tenure and leave for more qualified person. You forgot to bring development to your home state like the abandoned East/West road.
Agare Isaac: Sir, you have failed me in the area of security, your administration has cost the death of 1,800 people, unlike our Military Heads of State. Going by this data, by 2015, about 800,000 to 1,000,000 souls would have gone.
Sufya Deen Ibrahim: Sir, you have a silver tongue like the Niger State Governor ( Talba).
Duru Vincent: One year after your Presidential pronouncement of job offer and immortalization of slain Bauchi NYSC Corp members, this promise is yet to be fulfilled.
Bisi Awoeyo: Mr. President, your anniversary gift to Nigerians like the New Year subsidy gift, is the tariff for darkness instead of light.
Opeodu Olutayo: Where is the electricity to watch the briefings?
Akan Martins: Mr. President, my regards, ministerial briefings is good, but people in the village might not be part of this.

Olisa, A United Kingdom-based Nigerian and a Chief Superintendent with the London Metropolitan Police, Mr. Victor Olisa, has been appointed as the first black commander for Bexley local council in London.
“Policing runs in the family and I have always wanted to be a police officer and ethnicity does not affect that” Olisa told the Europe Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in his reaction on the appointment in London.
Olisa, whose grandfather was a police officer in Nigeria, said his focus was on the job rather than on being the ``first black’’ adding that his ethnicity never affected the way he carried out his duties.
``I consider myself first and foremost a police officer. If (being black) is an advantage, then brilliant; If it’s a disadvantage, I will have to deal with that, I can’t hide it.''
Olisa said a lot was being done to address racism within the force, adding that it was the responsibility of the force to correct wrongs and not an institution for people with racist views.
``I am impeccably against anyone who uses racist language or behaves in a racist manner. This will not be allowed under my watch.
``I believe that everyone should be treated with dignity wherever they come from,’’ Olisa said.
Olisa, 52, born in Warri, Delta, is one of the three chief superintendents from black minority ethnic background working for the Metropolitan Police.
He started his career in Surrey Police in 1982 before transferring to the City of London Police in 1990 as detective inspector in the Fraud Squad.
After a spell at the Home Office, he transferred to the Metropolitan police in 2006 as a superintendent in Southwark Council before his recent appointment.

PRESIDENT JONATHAN SIGNS AMENDED BILLS ON RETIREMENT AGE OF STAFF OF POLYTECHNICS, COLLEGES OF EDUCATION AND UNIVERSITIES AND TENURE OF PRINCIPAL OFFICERS OF UNIVERSITIES
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has signed the Bill for an Act entitled,
Retirement Age of Staff of Polytechnics and Colleges of Education (Harmonisation) Act, 2012. This law harmonises the compulsory retirement age of staff of Polytechnics and Colleges of Education to be 65 years and exempts them from the Public Service Rule which requires a person to retire from the Public Service after serving for 35 years.
President Jonathan has also assented to the Bill for an Act to further amend the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act No. 11, 1993. The new
Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act, 2012, limits the tenure of principal officers of universities to a single term of five years, while increasing the compulsory retirement age of staff in the professorial cadre and non-academic staff in Nigerian universities to 70 and 65 years respectively.

Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the only person convicted over the 1988 Lockerbie bombing above Scotland which killed 270 people, has died at his home in the Libyan capital Tripoli.

During Col Gaddafi's rule, many Libyans maintained that Megrahi was innocent whatever the court decided.
I have spoken to a number of Libyans since Col Gaddafi was ousted last year who believe that Megrahi was guilty.
But you still find that many Libyans say that Megrahi did not directly participate in the bombing, that he was used as a scapegoat by the former regime.
So there are mixed views in Libya on this matter.
Dr Jim Swire, whose daughter Flora died at Lockerbie, called Megrahi's death a "very sad event".
"Right up to the end he was determined, for his family's sake... [that] the verdict against him should be overturned," said Dr Swire, who is a member of the Justice for Megrahi group.
"And also he wanted that for the sake of those relatives who had come to the conclusion after studying the evidence that he wasn't guilty, and I think that's going to happen."

His brother Abdulhakim said on Sunday that Megrahi's health had deteriorated quickly and he died at home in Tripoli.

The margin of victory over Barcelona was fine and, as such, the closing seconds before half-time in both legs of the semi-final tie should be cherished by Chelsea. Didier Drogba scored in that period at Stamford Bridge before Ramires did the same in the return game.
4. SACKING SAVIOUR
The firing of André Villas-Boas after just nine months as manager looked like another reckless move by Roman Abramovich, but he will reflect on that decision with huge satisfaction now. Roberto Di Matteo came in and galvanised the squad towards its greatest moment. The change was an inspired one.
5. DEADLY DROGBA
In what is set to be his final season at Stamford Bridge it was perhaps written in the stars that the Ivorian would make a final, decisive impact.
